 Observations
All right, this is it...after this I have completed my "Observations" series on all the Street Hawk episodes.
I shall now proceed to copywrite the material and sell it for $19.95 on some informercial late at night.
Maybe I can have Janice help me...she could be the typical girl in the informercial that's always shocked at what a great bargain it is. "How much would you pay for this series? $100? $50? $25? Well, tonight if you call in the next 30 minutes you're only going to pay $19.95!"
Anyways, enough silliness, on with my observations:
- I've always stated this is my least favorite episode, and it still is. However, giving it a second chance, there were some redeeming moments. I think the episode would have been better if it focused less on the 12th Street Protection Gang and more on the gold robbers.
- Who in the world ships gold bars stacked loose on pallettes? And who would be dumb enough to try and fly them out in a helicopter with an open-weave net. You'd be dropping gold bars all the way home.
- When the bad guys are captured and they are handcuffing them, one of the cops actually puts his arm through the loop in the bad guy's arm...while holding his gun!
Favorite Quotes:
Altobelli: "Get rid of that big ape!"
Jesse: "How?"
Altobelli: "Shoot him if you have to."
No pun intended: "Go for the gold, Norman."
"I see palm trees; this must still be California."

I agree, not the best in the series run. However in my opinion the bike looks awesome in this episode. I love a couple of slides the stuntguy performs, a couple of cool angles from the bike's P.O.V. are used. Plus they even took the time to rig the false gun on the bike to emit smoke coming out of the barrel during one of the medium shots after it was fired. In most cases all we were ever got to see were a couple of close up stock footage angles of it firing.

 Observations
This actually started off REALLY well, and I thought it was going to be my favourite episode, but along the way, it lost its way and in the end it ended up just being a bit above average in my opinion. The problem, as others have mentioned, was the stupid 12th street gang or whatever, and also the lack of real connection with the gold robbers. I would have preferred it if it was just a more traditional episode with robbers and good guys, rather than robbers, good guys, and a bunch of guys trying to be good but just making a nuisance of themselves..
Anyway. My observations:
- That quote mentioned above (Altobelli: "Get rid of that big ape!"
Jesse: "How?"
Altobelli: "Shoot him if you have to.")
.....was great :) I really liked that, and it kind of set the tone for the whole episode. This one had more humor than all the others I think. That was a really funny line and I wasn't expecting it! And then there was the whole thing with Norman going ape without his computer, and shouting down the manhole :) I liked that, although they did take slightly too far maybe, and into the realms of sillyness.
- Gold robbery was an excellent story for a SH episode. I just think it got overshadowed a bit, and messed up by the vigilante plumbers..
- Loved seeing SH helping the average joe, when he stepped in to that face off at the start of the episode. Just a shame, again, that it all kind of got forgotten after those plumbers started irritating me.
- That one bad guy the plumbers had a stand off with at the start, reminded me a bit of Patrick Swayze.
- The little skinny bad guy to the left, with the blonde hair and the red T shirt made me laugh! He looks like such a weed, and he looks really awkward when he reached for his gun. Made me laugh.
- Plumbers daughter = nice!
- Fat plumber just wasn't a lovable character. I was totally on his side to begin with, but he just ends up annoying me. He rejects Jessy's offer of help, and then the scene where he tries to beat up Jessy and Jessy keeps stepping out of the way was funny, and only made me dislike him even more. When he ends up opening his cupboard full of guns, I REALLY dislike him at that point.
Overall a decent episode. So sad to see it all end :(

Yeah, at that point in the show you're just thinking to yourself, "Why are you being such an idiot?" I understand that he's trying to protect his neighborhood, but overall this character comes off as a complete moron and I end up not sympathizing with him and his cause.

I second that. The series could have gone out on a stronger note, but if anything would make Follow The Yellow Gold Road memorable it would be that it was the last Street Hawk episode.
